Cases in use: genitive, accusative, locative

The rules

Lithuanian has seven cases, but three of them do most of the everyday work. The genitive answers ko? and covers possession, quantity and negation. The accusative answers ką? and marks the object of a verb and motion towards a place. The locative answers kur? and says where something is. Learn these three and most everyday speech opens up.

  • Einu į parduotuvę, nes namuose nėra duonos.
    I am going to the shop because there is no bread at home.
  • Vakar buvau pas gydytoją, o šiandien dirbu namuose.

    Coffee without sugar, please.
