Exam skills trainer

Speaking trainer

Personal questions, a short talk and role-plays, as in the exam: with preparation and speaking timers, model answers and the examiners' scoring scale.

How the speaking part works

  1. Personal questions (2–3 min): the examiner asks about you and you answer straight away.
  2. A short talk on a topic (4–5 min), with 1 min to prepare.
  3. Two role-plays, for example at the post office or in a café (2 min each), with 1 min to prepare each.

The assessor gives each of the three situations (the talk and the two role-plays) 0–3 points, and the interviewer gives up to 1 point for the whole conversation: 10 points in all.

A2 needs 6 points, with your best two situations at 5 or more.
