“Ethnic communities of citizens shall independently manage the affairs of their ethnic culture, education, charity, and mutual assistance. Ethnic communities shall be provided support by the State.”
Ethnic communities of citizens independently manage the affairs of their ethnic culture, education, charity and mutual assistance. The State provides support to ethnic communities. This is the last article of Chapter III, Society and the State.
The Polish or Russian community in Lithuania can run its own cultural centre, weekend school and charity fund, managed by the community itself, and the State supports such activities.
Questions ask what ethnic communities manage independently (ethnic culture, education, charity, mutual assistance) and whether the State supports them (yes). Do not confuse this with Article 37, which guarantees the right to foster language, culture and customs.
